    Crashed and dirty RGV250

    hey fellas

starting a thread on an RGV that I have just taken from my mate. I've never worked on a bike like I have on cars, but have owned a couple of NSRs before.

My mate has had this bike since 2001, it's build plate says 9/1996. It was immaculate when it was purchased, the family has 4 brothers and the eldest one is a bit of a cunt. Took it out one day on their first month of ownership to mt Dandenong and had a low slide trying to race some cunts up and down the hill. It sat there for another 2 years before having the fairings replaced and the motor rebuilt with whatever that's required replaced after sitting there like a heap of shit. Same month when it came back from the shops, the eldest cunt took it into the city threw the bike right in the middle of CBD doing something stupid. So it's sat in the backyard out in the sun with the dog for 8 years or something?

I just asked him one day if he still had it and if I could have it.

everything looks fucked on it, even their dog has had a good go and eating some bits of the plastic, but the frame is straight. Going to take off all the fairing and whatever that's attached to it and give it a good clean first. I just read the blue haze thread awesome. I found a service manual which is downloadable from suzuki uk.

Please provide any guidance and also parts lead as I will be slowly buying parts.

Will just be a street bike and club reg when it's 25.

some potato pics taken yesterday, don't ever rent one of these bike trailers from moveyourself.com.au.

    Great bikes.

They've got a rep cause they are pretty quick for a 250, and a lot of young cunts binned them, hence not learner legal.

    Nice.

"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

the weather in melbourne was very good to wash the bike and inspect what's needed to get it going.

as i mentioned before the bike has sat in my mate's yard for about 8 years or whatever. Same time when his little brother bought a labrador pup. Over the years she ate away the plastic bits and rubber her fur all over the bike. The bike was filthy, took like a few litres of degreaser and lots of spraying with the high pressure cleaner.

close up pic of dog fur

took off the front mudguard thing and it was a bit fiddly. My mate turned it around and saw a bunch of round egg looking things. Found a few friends that made a nest, fuck that, no good.

The filter is so old, when i poke it lightly, the thing disintegrated

fairings all off, all the mounts are broken, not sure if it's worth fixing. I am leaning towards them chinese fairings.

carb seems clean and still very smooth when i twist the throttle.

coolant is clean and full, goods signs i think?

the dog bit through a few cables, seems to be the only damage to the wiring.

a bit grubby, but i might leave it like that, it's all baked in and shit. The bike supposedly had a rebuild a few years ago, I will do a compression test and do another top end later. I fucked a few of the rad fins with the spray cleaner, will take it off and use a butter knife to straighten them out.

pic of the dented fuel tank, small dent, do I just take this to a panel beater to knock out the dent? or can i take it to a PDR guy and get him to pull it out? I tried to remove the ring to get access to try and remove the fuel cap, the last allen key wouldn't come out, have no fucking idea that's going on. I might take the tank to a locksmith and see if they can cut me a new key. I don't have the key to any of the locks (ignition, helmet lock.)

snapped a pic of the fur covered rear brakes. will be rebuilding the fronts as well, the fluids were brown, the dog ate through one of the front brake hose, proabbly just replace them all and rebuild the break masters as well. Or are there better ideas?

picked up one of these stands, i need to suss out how it works properly, not that great right now.

    all clean now

list of things i think i need.

front and rear brake seals for rebuild
    front brake line
front and rear break master seals
    chain
    seat
    fairings
    battery
    tyres

    things to do next

    get key cut
    rewire chewed up wire loom
drain and replace the 2T oil, it's colour green, i think it's still good no water or whatever
    drain and replace gearbag oil
    wire up battery
    start bike
    take forks off
    take wheels off

Not to mention how the dog managed not to piss off the big red back spiders that nested where she was chewing up the brake lines

Good to see another here. To add to Gammas list if you haven't already get onto RGV.co.uk and have a look around every issue ever encountered is covered in the forum. Take the carbs off and check all 3 jets.
Piper cross do a good after market reusable filter.
Pull the power valves and give them a good clean and inspection.
If you want to give it a good clean pulling the motor is not a biggie.
    How many Kms on it?

    Just saw the Kay's 16000.
If you are unsure of the top end condition you can just take the cylinders with heads still on to have a look and just have the base gaskets to do.

Take ignition down to locksmith and they'll do you a few keys, should be same as tank. Might find it's rusty if just sitting around for years.

I've taken the top triples off and have started to drill the bolts off, going no where lol. I'm going to try and bust the thing and put in a switch or something. I don't think I'll even ride the bike much.

You could bypass the ignition with a switch across pins in the green plug under the tank?

I saw this in the wiring diagram (later) I am so annoyed now because I've tried to bash the barrel in and it's a cunt of a thing, it's still not turning. I just want to take it out now, because it's all mangled and blank it off, then run a switch.
