    What are you boys smoking?!?

    A turbo, especially in these applications, isn't going to go from 0psi to 25psi at the application of a small amount of throttle input, especially not in low range when there isn't a great deal of load on the engine when you give it a blip.

    The petrol has a larger rotating mass, that's whats helping it out compared with the other vehicles there. So where you can lug along, they have to apply more throttle input.

    Actually that's exactly what happens with the turbo, and it's not a small amount of throttle input either, it's a large amount, large and instant enough for a 35 inch heavy mud terrain tyre to climb a 600mm rock _without_ firing out the other side with too much speed and bouncing off shit.

    There was no "lugging" going on, diesel or petrol.

    Are we watching the same video, because I'm not seeing what you are describing?

    And secondly the idea of low range and lower gears is to significantly increase the torque available, albeit at a more controlled speed. So the addition of a turbo will improve the torque available, but if its coming on strong as you describe then its not tuned to that application.

    2 questions. Have you driven a jk diesel off road? And do you actually know how to drive?

    If your watching vids of cunts bouncing around like mad, its because they intend to, or they are offroad noobs. Petrol/diesel doesnt mean shit. Traction, gearing and clearance is everything for crawling.

    Look at the cunts at 4wd action for example. All various turbo diesels, none have problems wheeling, because they are experienced.

    Like i said before.. If td5 cunts can wheel with laggy as fuck small capacity diesels with no power aaaand torques, combined with a manual, then any muppet can do it if they put their minds to it.

    This thread has probably gone full circle, yes I have driven modified and stock JK Wranglers offroad in both diesel and petrol on genuine rock crawl climbs, I even posted a video of me doing so (Petrol) - where's yours?

    I never said you couldn't - here's a refresher:
    It's not a big issue for most things but trying to inch your way across a rock obstacle where you need big torque then small torque etc, I definitely noticed it, in comparison the throttle modulation on the 3.6 was exactly proportional to the torque response due to no turbo and much easier.

    Guarantee with those 35's you're still running standard gearing. Fix that and most of the issues will be driver rather than vehicle.

    Neither Jeep im referring to here has standard gearing.

    Do you also think turbo diesels are better than naturally aspirated vehicles for decent rock crawling?

    Well if you've done diff ratios (presuming you haven't gone to my local Jeep specialist in Castle Hill who reckons 4.56 diff ratios are too low on a TJ running 33's) and still can't control your throttle response when crawling you need to look at technique.

    If you have decent crawl ratio's it shouldn't matter what engine you are running to some extent.

    Never said I had a big issue, just that it was easier without turbo boost coming on half way up a rock, the exact words I used are above.

    One of the lamest arguments to appear on PF. Who really cares what's turning the tyres when you're 'rock crawling' in your road going near stock 4wd. It's far more important the engine is suitable for dropping the kids off and buying this weeks essentials.

    I often go wheeling with twin locked Patrols with 35's/37 inch tyres and big lifts so I don't really need a lot of mods, still end up up the top of the big tracks by myself anyway.

    I had a drive and it was very nice but I donít think it was good enough to make me want to get rid of my current wrangler.
    Maybe I should just get another motorbike for my collection.
