So a carbon airbox on the cards ? The oversized air boxes do wake them up a bit. I have found the 748 and 998 a joy to work on compared to the newer dukes. Seems they didn’t just thing about making them look the part and go well in those days, but also considered the guys working on them. Simple thing like fairings, seat, tank and nose cone all off in about 10 mins tops. You’d be lucky to getting the side fairings off an 848 in that time.

    Yep carbon or fibreglass/carbon.
I had a nagging pre conseption that these would be a pig to work on since they are so pretty and form would have taken a priority over function, but so far I'm wrong.

Tamburini was all about function combined with form - they were really designed to be easy to work on in racebike form using lessons learned with the 851/888 and the TT1/TT2 series of bikes... so a bunch of that carried over to the road bike. The Mito (also Tamburini) is similarly easy to work on and share a few odd bits and bobs with the 916 family of bikes (but uses much cheaper connectors).
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

    Damn that Corsa looks good.

Thought the best way to break down the big bits solo was to string it up and use the lift to lower parts as I disconnected. Worked great.

So it's all stripped down and ready for paint/powder. Gave the frame and subframe a good degrease and pressure wash.

Some interesting things found on the way are what looks like a 916 ECU.

    Upper and lower coolant reservoir.

    Cagiva elephants everywhere.

    Good patina on starter terminal.

The frame will have to be painted rather than powder coated.
The used import sticker / compliance sticker cannot be reissued for obvious reasons.

All bearings and bolts came out easy bar the lower shock and ride height shaft cap bolt.
I had the swingarm detached from engine and frame on a piece of carpet, right foot on the end of a breaker bar left foot just touching the other side of the swingarm.
Holding into the floor joist above my head with both hands and a couple of good kicks got it.
Adjustable steerer is simple and effective, upper and lower clamp bolts and the silver Allen bolt locates tube in position.

Hmmmm - I wonder if it's had a 916 motor swapped into it?

Interesting, will look for some cylinder markings to try and identify.
Instantly thought for some reason just the ECU was replaced with a 916 ECU.

Unless it's had the Eprom switched (there will be a sticker over a big rubber plug on the other side of the ECU) for one with 748 mapping, it will be rich as fuck... Does it have the dual injector setup (overhead shower injector, and a side mount?)?

As for the engine - options are
    1) Vernier down the plug hole and measure stroke - 66mm for a 916, 61.5 for a 748.
or 2) The engine number will have the capacity in it:

Sub 1098 for 916 or 748 there - apparently, and if it's the US format, there will be a SB8 for 916, and SB3 for 748 (and if you're lucky, SB5 for 996)

There's a couple of KG to be lost finding an aluminium monoposto subframe fwiw.

No shower injector just the one.

No tape over plug, did have a look at chip underneath but can't remember what was on it. Might have been blank?
Away for work ATM so won't get back to it for a week or so.
Can confirm subframe is f#@£en heavy have been on the lookout for a fruity version.

Hmmm, might have had something done with the EProm.
Be interesting what you find with the engine number.

Looks to be a 748 engine.

Will have to do some more investigation on the chip.

    Frame paint is done.
    Also blasted the exhaust pipework.
Was considering polishing it but put off by the thought of maintaining it.
Hopefully it will just colour nicely and stay relatively clean looking.

Also gathered hose and a fuel filter to mount the fuel filter externally, looks like there is plenty of room along side the throttle bodies just below where the rag is in this pic.

Making solid forward progress. Will be a pretty amazing transformation.
