If you get one, buy everything from here your class racing will allow.

    http://cmpautoengineering.com/shop/

You will break diffs and there are no off the shelf, factory LSD's. So be prepared to stump up some pretty hefty coin for an aftermarket lsd center and rebuild of your existing diff, or swap to a stronger M3 setup (about $2000-$2300 is average for a complete rear cradle). There are no high factory ratios either, so if you were thinking of 3.91's or 4.10's, it's not going to happen cheaply. Motorsport gear sets are available, but they are $1500 ish for a crown wheel and pinion.

330i and m3's have the biggest brakes, so id probably be looking to buy a 330i. It'll also make it easy to swap out to an M3 diff if you break the 330i one as they share the same input flange, so the 330i tailshaft will bolt up to the m3 diff without issue.

So your $2500 purchase is really more like 10k by the time you fix the issues with the chassis, fit a cage and look at upgrading the diff. If that doesn't scare you, then your LS1 swap is still going to put you atleast 15k deep into it, closer to 20 is more realistic though.

If it still sounds cheap enough, V8 E46's are great to drive. I love mine to bits even though it has been a steady road of upgrades due to breakages.

    Eeek but good solid advice.

I mistakenly started discussing what you blokes had given me information wise with the missus thinking she’d be all up in a cheap shitter and she levelled me in 30s

“Bullshit my arse you’ll leave it standard, you can’t help yourself, then there will be car parts arriving and you’ll be in the shed every night, stick to the dirt bike you just bought”

Check back in a year when she’s forgotten

This is gonna sound incredibly boring, but you can get a LS1 factory fitted in any old VT-VZ commode. Last manual one I got was $4500 with low km. So cheap, and easy, I thought about turning it from a daily into a budget track hack. So 10k with some gumtree brakes, suspension, diff, donk bolts ons and tune and off you go. But nah, that's P-plater talk and not the baller PF build way. Ignore me then.

Yea I’m hearing you but after having had an Aussie car for years I’d like to try something Euro RWD. I don’t know what other options there are. I looked at Silvia’s but they were either 25k nice ones or 8k shit ones with 4cyl and body kits.

I’m still tempted to buy an E46 3xx and stash it at her brothers farm.
