Police to issue $240,000 in fines over Melbourne hoon gathering

    https://www.news.com.au/news/nationa...1ca76c1ad43975

More than 300 people have been busted at a Melbourne hoon gathering, with police pepper spraying a 17-year-old.

Police are expected to issue attendees with more than $240,000 in fines after responding to calls of people gathering and doing illegal activities in their cars in the cityís northern suburbs last night.

Authorities received reports of people gathering in their vehicles in Sunshine West, Tullamarine, Derrimut and Keilor Park.

To be fair, most 17 year olds deserve a pepper spraying at some point.

    I know I did.

I hope they follow through with it. Aside from my stance or opinion in either side of the debate (I've totally been guilty of 'attending', my entire late teens was based around this shit) I do love a solid dishing of butthurt and this takes the cake. Can't wait to see cunts crying in ACA that they can't afford to pay the fines etc......

So what is the $800 fine for? Simply attending? Wtf? Cunts are high on their own power.

Yeh I bet they stopped short of trying to ping people on the spot for fear of a bit of hoon gang justice in the moment so went around taking down plates or just driving past logging plates using their tech. What a crock of shit though, $300 for gathering somewhere, welcome to Nazi Australia!

Little things in these articles piss me off (aside from the sensationalist media spin) eg captions on pics with piss poor editing and checking "One of several alcohol left on the ground on Harrick Road, Keilor Park"

I hate it when people leave several alcohol lying around!

    Probably use ANPR

But what about if I wasnít attending and I was going to work

Or my car was parked out the front of a factory or a million other reasons to be in a public place

    Cunts have lost their mind

I was always careful to park a decent distance from these "events" when I was observing for precisely this reason.
I'm sure the court system will get a workout from all the appeals.

Curious what the fine is actually for.
This is why things like anti association laws make me nervous.

I'm guessing this is some strict liability, reverse onus of proof bs that will prevent the registered owner saying they weren't there?

I cannot see how this could even remotely be a water-tight fine

Seem the law had some hardcore power behind it. Would be interesting to see if it is challenged and lost.

Maybe this is a water tester to see if it will be challenged and weather it is water tight for bigger fish?

If anyone actually believes there will be a single fine mailed for being there and not participating then news.com.au has already won.
