Fixing Nistune R32 idle switch issue

Just an idea for anyone who has a Z32 or R32 ecu for Nistune in there R33.

The RB25DET doesnt have an idle switch, instead it has a variable voltage TPS.

The Z32 copes without an idle switch by defaulting back to the voltage from the TPS. Some people dont have any problems with this, other people notice a slight hesitation as the ECU swaps tables.

The R32 has no idea what to do without the switch and has poor idle characteristics. There is apparently code over on nistune to fix this, all the idle switch does is connect pins 54 and 57 on the R32 ECU to let it know its in idle.

So I'm thinking one can just go buy a momentary contact switch and mount this to either somewhere on the throttle body so it is pushed when its closed or somewhere on the accelerator pedal.

Im waiting on my R32 ECU and my nistune, but once it arrives ill give this a go and let you know how I go.

Why not just retrofit an RB20 TPS onto the RB25 throttle body?

RB25 throttlebody should have both.

Manual cars use the throttle position sensor
Auto cars use both the switch and sensor.

Series 2 RB25 throttlebody has both plugs hardmounted alongside each other.
Series 1 RB25 throttlebody has one of the plugs hanging loose which may have been cut off?

Ill have a closer look tonight, just people have been making a fuss over this issue for quite a while now (nistune owner even wrote some firmware changes to the ecu to get around the problem). If it was that simple I thought it would of been known to everyone. Then again I may have over estimated the skyline community....

I just dont have any trouble but I dont use R32 ECUs on R33s. always use Z32.

Just had a look... your right, there is a spare plug. Check it with the multi meter. At idle closed circuit, off idle open circuit.
Alot of mis information going around about this car, now just to run some wires and hook this up to the 32 ecu and see how it goes.

Im curious as to why you change the R33 ecu with an R32 or Z32, is there no niztune support for the R33 comp the car came with?

No, the R33 ECU is an orphan - not modifyable.

Is that a hint that Matt (or someone else) has something in the works?

Correct, there is no nistune board for the R33 due to the complexity of the R33 board.
I have done a bit of digging, yes there is an idle switch that is unused on the manual R33's. If you wire this up to the R32 ecu the idle works fine.
Matt also has a firmware fix that uses the TPS voltage to switch the ecu to the idle map.
He has no fix yet for the Z32 ecu (the z32 ecu has something inbuilt that defaults back to the idle map when it realizes there is no idle switch, hence it works fine most of the time)
