V8SC Safety Car Driver

After todays effort at PI, I think they will be advertising for a new Saftey Car driver position available from tomorrow...

I think Amber will need to look for a new job after todays fuck up...

Even if Tim Shenken forgot to give the order for her to scramble - she should have enough common sense to realise what was happening and start to move...

lol, what an idiot.

On a more serious note, it could of cost millions in cars, and possibly lives, imagine if a 230+kph supercar went up the arse of the stationary "safety" car.

its sheer luck no-one crashed, some of the in car footage was pretty hairy.

I really dont get this... Incidence like whats happened today have happened over and over all around the world in various racing catagories.... (WTCC round at Pau ring a bell) yet the only time i've ever seen the driver wear safety gear is in F1. and how often have we seen F1 cars having a near miss with the safety car like today?

Wasnt the saftey car drivers fault, it was Tim Shenkin's (spelling) doing...apparently he 'forgot' were he placed the safety car !!!

Safety car takes commands from race control on who to pick up and when.

Like I said in my first comment - she would have already been told to pick up Car 1, she had already been told to scramble

Whilst she may not have realised that Car 1 was coming up behind her from the pits (maybe thinking it was coming down the straight instead), the fact that both #1 & #7 were sitting beside her for about 10 secs (and then had the smarts to pass her), surely she has enough experience (and saftey knowledge) that even if she didn't get the call to roll, she would / should have realised something was wrong and not sat on the main straight (out of sight until cars are bearing down at 250km/h) to be a problem...

Even Rick Kelly said in his interview he was sitting beside her revving the car and indicating to go and pointing to Car #1 in front..

I didn't see the race. But assuming the drivers knew there was a safety car, why were they doing that kind of speed down the straight? Shouldn't they have backed off a bit?

Because until they reach the sc they are racing the guys in the pits for position

Doesnt a fullcourse yellow and SC conditions mean no position changes (even in the pits)?

No it means back off and expect an accident somewhere on the track and also expect the safety car to be running around the course. Not to be stopped on the front straight.

As was said they are racing people in pit straight (the only people they can over take while they are in pit lane).

Nah. They can't pass each other on track but changes in pits are
ok. Also a car can gain position due to a faster outlap/ slow pitstop

Yep, Ultimately the buck stops with him....
But I still reckon the person driving has to take responsibility for what happens on the track while they are in the car.

Surely common sense dictates that they dont need to 'wait for permission' to move if they sence a dangerous situation. If they didn't realise that yesterdays situation was dangerous, then they are clearly NOT the right person for the job.
