Borg Warner help

I'm going to get all motivated and chnage the diff gears and fit a minispool into the bW that's in the HK. I cant seem to find the torque settings for the bolts, mainly pinion bolt, crown wheel and bearing carrier bit. Diff is originally from a VN.

Crown wheel bolts are about 100 lb-ft. Carrier bearing cap bolts are about 45 lb-ft. And the drive pinion nut is tightened until you have the right preload on the bearings.

if its for any decent hp stuff remove the crush tube and use a solid spacer, downside is that you need to get the correct clearance then rather just tighten the nut until you get what you want.

According to the manual for the VN the torque specs are:
Crown wheel bolts 145 Nm, Bearing caps 60 Nm.

Pulled diff cover off and found this

Now I'm no expert on diff's but this looks like my $80 single spinner is actually a LSD. Nice suprise but I remember reading somewhere that you cant fit mini-spools to lsd centres on BW. Fact or fiction? Gave up tonight anyway as pinion bolt is far too tight to be sensible.

Mini spools do not go in an LSD centre.

Pinion bolt will rattle off pretty easy. Pick up a single spinner from a wrecker for $50 I reckon, get some new carrier bearings pressed on just because they're cheap, < $100 for a remove, supply and refit from any diff shop.

Pinion Bolt giggled at my rattle gun and car wasn't high enough off the ground to get a decent bar onto it. Are these LSD's crap or can they be built strong enough?

If not, good luck, they are a cunt.

the LSD's are ok in lighter cars.. heavier cars shag them out all the time. go spool or aftermarket LSD/locker

Every write up I've found on these things reckon the centre's come out/in without spreaders

High 3's low 4's. You dont get a whole lot to pick from down here. I have some 3.45's but it'll see the strip more than it'll cruise 100km's so anything lower would be better.

It will come out with abit of force and stuffing around, going back in is another story alltogether.

nah, with a copper mallet and light taps they go back in with no problems. just be careful not to hit the shims and shatter them

Yep agree also, get rid of the crush tube for the pinion bearing preload.

no chance you will get it back in without a spreader, getting them out isn't too bad.
